GUIDED TOURS THROUGH THE EXHIBITION “ONE MAN, NO CHOP” (The Museum of African Art, 1977-2017)

pre-closing series of guided tours

In the last month of the "One Man, No Chop" exhibition marking 40 years of the Museum (1977-2017) the MAA has prepared topical guided tours through the exhibition, which will be lead by the exhibition's curators, researchers on the project, as well as select authors of the accompanying monograph. Through this series of public guided tours we will look at the architecture of the building and the relationship of the exterior and interior with museum contents, the importance of developing diplomatic relations that were crucial for the expansion of the collections of the Museum in its founding days, as well as autobiographical information about the diplomats and cultural workers Veda Zagorac and Zdravko Pečar, based on the re-discovered archives that have been displayed on this occasion for the first time. The concept that the authors of the exhibition Dr. Ana Sladojević and Emilia Epštajn developed, aims to re-conceptualize the museum, and question established and given-for-granted representation patterns and working policies through the process of historization and by relying on some of the first ideas and values that played a key role within the "Yugoslav" and "non-aligned" framework, within which the Museum was founded.
