THE MUSEUM OF AFRICAN ART IN THE „NIGHT OF MUSEUMS 2014“ ON TWO LOCATIONS:
BELGRADE – KNJAŽEVAC
BELGRADE – THE MUSEUM OF AFRICAN ART
Saturday, June 7th, 6 pm – 02 am
THE CIVILISATION OF THE DISAPPEARING LAKE
The Museum of African Art aims to include into the global collage, remembrance of the ancient Sao civilization, which spread across the wider area around Lake Chad, the Lake which is slowly disappearing... For the purpose of this event, the idea is presented using different media.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see the current exhibition “Kotoko Equestrians, Guardians of the Soul”, which displays miniature bronze figures – talismans with motifs of horses and riders who appear in an exceptional variety of stylistic diversity, bearing strong symbolic meanings within the African Kotoko peoples culture.
The permanent exhibition will include a canvas, like a window through which viewers will be relieved from the burdens and limitations of pre-though and be able to create an intuition based knowledge and impression of the folklore and cultural identity of the bi-millennium civilization represented through the original video work especially created for the Night of Museums, inspired by Kotoko horsemen. The video in the form of a patch-work is based on an authentic ceremony held in remembrance of the Sao civilization (Mani-Nigeria), as well as segments borrowed from Africa’s famous interpreter – documentary filmmaker Jean Rouch. All this will be accompanied with a, for this occasion specially designed, musical counterpart in the form of Live Act.
Exclusively in the NIGH OF MUSEUMS 2014! At prime time, after 20h, there will be a performance by the now famous trio which combines traditional African music with electronic sound. The Trio are: Nevena Filipović - vocals, Bojan Ivković and Relja Svilar - music (percussion + sound matrices).
